tyre advice

I need some new tyres towards the end of autumn beginning of winter time, Im currently running Schwalbe Nobby Nics, they have served me well with no complaints. I've noticed that there seems to be a lot of favour/chat about running different tyres front and back along with different sizing front and back. Is it worth doing this or should I stick to what I know, if its worth it what tyre combo do people recommend ? Im riding a full susser and ride mostly cross country and trail riding.

    Surely you are already riding in Autum/Winter conditions now with this crap weather :wink:

    Thinking more time scale than conditions :!: , should have said "I need to replace my tyres in 3-4 months time" :)
