Hi, my wife has offered to buy me a new wheelset for my yeti 5 (lucky me). Ive narrowed it down to the crossmax st (2012) and dt Swiss Tricon 1550 as they seem to meet my trail riding/enduro/marathon needs with strength and weight. Price wise there's about £100 in it.

Currently running hope pro 2 on crest rims which are fine aparts from the bearings not lasting very long. Plus would like something a bit more bling as I have the opportunity.

Anyone got any feedback of these wheels for or against. Or any other strong contender is may have missed.

DT240s on Arch EX, or stick with Crests if you're happy with them.

either 240's or tune hubs on arch ex's. Personally I wouldn't ever buy factory wheels such the ones you mention, purely for the spares and difficulty if something goes wrong.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I do like the idea on the DT240s hubs, either a new buld with arch ex rims, or changing my crests. I know the DT hubs arent cheap so will cost it up.

I can't help but want a boutique/bling wheelset, but unterdatnd the spares issue also. I was stuck for months when a straignt pull spoke broke on my XT wheelset a few years back.

Anyone else got any feedback on crossmax ST or DT Tricon's?

DT wheelsets from Actionsports.de are far cheaper than here. Less than €500 IIRC on Stan's rims.

this. I managed to price up a set of tune king/kong hubs, supercomp spokes and arch ex's for just over £500 and they would be well under 1500g, so lighter, cheaper, and easier to live with. It's a no brainer to me.

I'd choose DT over Tune too, my King/Kong Superscharf were very unremarkable. In part due to their ridiculous construction (now changed), but all my sets of 240s have proven more reliable, easier to work on with spares more readily available.

I can get the crossmaxs for £425 which can also be changed to run a 142 rear as I plan to with my Yeti5.

Can the DT 240's be easily converted from 135 to 142?

Yep, can buy it in either guise, or there's a conversion kit.

Quite liking the idea of white 240s hubs on black arch ex rims. What's a strong stiff/light spoke to use?

dt supercomps are what I currently use with my crest/pro2 combo, have had no problems at all.

    In order of stiffer/stronger/heavier:

    - Competition
    - Super Comp
    - Revolution

Super Comps are a good compromise. Aerolites are bladed versions of Revolutions, no stiffer, but do have a higher fatigue strength. Not worth it IMO (having had several sets of wheels using them).
