Hello, just about to take the plunge and get a bike, haven't ridden for around 15 years. I've been doing a bit of homework and have narrowed it down to 2 bikes ( both new) from 2011 that are on a deal . Giant xtc2 and Scott scale 50. Both appear to have a similar spec. I'm fairly big, 6'4" and 103kg, do you think either will be suitable ? Will be doing mainly trail, bridleways etc, bit of road. Have tried a 29er and wasn't keen. I have a budget of around £1000 , any other ideas ? Thanks for any help you can give.

I don't know much about the bikes you mention, but I would advise trying before you buy, particular if you're a lofty chap, you'll get to see if it fits well and if you like the handling. Aside from that, do a bit of research online to compare spec and VFM etc.

As above best to sit on a bike before ruling it out on sizing grounds alone.
