Finally finished assembling a Canyon Ultimate CF frame with the new Sram Red. 6.8 kg with training wheels, it should be sub 6.4 with tubulars (haven't weighted it yet).

    Oh my, that is nice.

I am contemplating a CF SLX with Dura Ace and Mavic Elites, but there is so much available in this price range, especially 2nd hand. I am dithering and risk missing what summer we may have left without a new carbon bike!

The CF SLX with Mavic Elites would look very nice indeed. However, you might want to keep in mind that the new CF SLX will come out in the autumn, together with a new Dura Ace.

Very nice bike, the Sram stuff finally looks almost as elegant as Campagnolo. Interesting how Sram have now lengthened their brake levers twice. The first iteration was so stubby and ugly...

There is, however, a strange issue with either the 'bar angle or the shifter placement on the 'bars. It looks as if the 'bars are rotated down 5 degrees, or the 'bars are fine but the shifter are installed too low. Looking at it again I think the shifters could be too low b/c in the bottom picture, the curve of the bar is horizontal but the line drops as you transition to the shifter. Maybe it's all fine when riding along...

Can't believe you call lovely wheels like Ardennes training wheels. Those things are weapons!

    Thanks,

I have Campag on my winter bike, and I agree with you. I think it is still a bit more elegant. However, the new SRAM is just terrific. The brakes and front derailleur are probably the biggest improvements, but the chainset, the ergonomics and the cassette are terrific too. I have another bike with the old SRAM Red and to be honest I have always liked it (with the exception of front shifting), but this is a massive improvement, in particular given its weight reduction.

Re: shifters. Yes, I think you are right. I have only ridden it briefly (as I have man-flu at the moment), but I have noticed that issue. I should have waited to tape it, but I really wanted to finish it. retrospectively, it was a bad move. they definitely need to come up...I'll check the bars first, but they appear to be straight.

Re: Ardennes. so far I haven't been that impressed, compared to other wheels I have used...but I am sure my opinion might change later on. They are not the lightest of wheels, that's for sure.

    Lovely!

Mine's coming on Monday, similar spec, but Force not Red, a Versus instead of CX Arione and RS80 Wheels. Might break the 7kg barrier just about.

Please post pics. RS80 are amazing wheels for their price. One of the best value/performance wheelsets! Let me know how you get on with the versus too. It was tempting, but decided to stick with a plain arione.

Will do! I plan one of those teasing "as it's built" threads.

Right up to the point that I mess something up and get my LBS to post the rest of the pics.

Looking at the weight of the Ardennes I reckon we'll be about 150g or so apart.........fingers crossed.

I am 5.7-5.8''. 52 fits me fine. I could have probably gone for a 50, but it would have been lots of seatpost and very long stem. a 54 should suit you better, but then it depends on how long your legs are compared to your upper body.

Did you just buy the frameset from canyon then put the gruppo on yourself, im looking to get one of these but dont want campag like on the 9.0 and cant find a way to change the setup?

Yes, I did. I bought the frame alone 4 months ago, and only got round to assemble it last week.
The price of the frameset is a bargain, compared to most other frames. In particular if you have a racing licence, or if you buy it on sale (they are on sale now)

Not sure who that was asked of, but i'm sure the OP will reply as well.

For me, yes. Sold my existing F/F, seatpost, stem etc. Then ordered the new frame from Canyon, which comes with all those bits.

Decided to change saddles and get a new set of bars (Evo Curve as Canyon specify)

Then chucking my own Force Groupset back on.

kamatt, did you get any brake nuts with the frame? I've mislaid my spare ones so unless the (a bit rusty) old ones fit then I need new ones. I've ordered some anyway, and they should come at the same time as the frame (tomorrow) but just thought I'd ask!

    Tidy!

Thinking about "upgrading" my RS80's to C24 Dura Ace. Not really about weight per se, just due new wheels.
