So few Colnagos!

I'm keeping an eye out for a frame however these seem pretty rare, are people just keeping them or do they sell just a few?

Guess this is a question to current and previous owners.

Cheers, Tim

Depends on which model, but generally riders like them so don't feel compelled to look for something else - they also have a bit of a timeless quality which lessens the need for switching every few years.

  • Totally agree with Monty Dog. I've had my alloy Dream Plus for over 10 years, dabbled with a couple of carbon frames from other manufacturers, but have got rid of them as they just didnt match up!

It still makes me smile when I look at it and I just love riding it!

When you get one you'll realise what it's all about! Good luck with your search

I hate to say it but is this the best bike manufacturer in the world? The Van Gough of bikes?

I like mine so much I'm still riding it 10 years later - I've bought other bikes since, but my Colnago is just so well sorted and handling-wise it's got me out of situations that I expect others would have left me on the floor. I had it resprayed with a custom paintjob a few years ago which makes it more special.

Out today on mine for the first time in aeons (still not fully sorted from injury...). I'd forgotten just how good it is to ride. It's a keeper.

If there was a dictionary entry for the phrase "sublime ride quality" there would be a pic of a 'Nago for sure.

    The Stradivarius of bikes.

They have a facebook page where they frequently post classic photos (as well as modern ones).

Very possibly. Nothing feels like a Colnago imo ...

I also had an Arte that fitted me perfectly. I stupidly got rid of it as it wasn't 'bling' enough for me. The frame cost me 300 quid (and I sold it for 300 quid) but it handled BEAUTIFULLY. :(

Saw a fair few of them yesterday.

Well actually - I saw a small number of them, being ridden quite hard and overtaking me, then stopping every ten miles for a break, then overtaking me again. :)

It’s certainly a prestige brand with a lot of history and some great bikes under its belt. I picked up my Master on Friday and IMO it looks stunning. Not had the chance to take her for a ride yet but I aim to this evening.

They are far and away the most popular brand on my local vets racing league - most are guys who've been racing for 25+ years and if they didn't handle well, most would get rid. I was talking to a clubmate who works for one of the big brands and he says the C59 is the best bike he's ridden and his bike is a ProTour replica with Di2.

The C59 is the best bike I've ridden in over 30 years and I've ridden a lot ... quality ...

Is it noticeably better than a C50? (or even a C40?)

I've ridden a C40 and C50 but not a C59, but it goes something like:
C40 - sublime ride quality, nice and smooth but front end not the stiffest, mainly due to 1" fork
C50 - similar to C40 but with firmer front end, front-end tracks better when you ride it hard. Great distance bike
C59 - directness of drive and handling without being harsh with too much surface feedback

Well, it depends what you like of course, the C40 and C50 are great rides, but the C59 is quite stiff, but not harsh and yet sooo progressive, great feeling ... like an EPS on steroids basically.

I bought a C40 about 18 months ago, loved it, in fact the frame is now for sale in the classifieds as I have bought two more.

When my mother died in September she left me a little money, I wanted something beautiful to remember her by, so I ordered the C59 150th Anniversary edition, I should receive it at the beginning of next week  : -

In between buying this I accidentally bid on a CX-1 as my club ride fame, (which I stupidly won at the same time as my C3 SL), haven't tried it yet as been too busy, but may try it in the morning. I expect it to ride even better than my C40: -

I'm a bit spoilt for choice but the C59 will only be ridden a few times a year, whereas the CX-1 and the R3 SL will be ridden 3/5 times a week.

I m hankering after one of those! to replace a 595 which i love :D but the C59 is like the 695 should have been and not stuffed full of integrated crank and stem :(

but you must ride it more often
