Excellent bit of kit as is the 705 replacement in the 800. Gives you all the on ride data you could ever need and you can build your screen to show what data you want and spread over three screens if you want the numbers big to read easily on the move.

Gps upload to Garmin connect or Strava tracks your rides and keeps an easily accessible log of all that you are doing.

I have the 800 and in hindsight should have just gone for the 500 as it would give me all the ride data and upload function I need. I haven't utilised the satnav facility that the 705 and 800 give over the 500 so could have saved a bit of cash. That said it is there if I choose to or need to use it in future.

Recommend wholeheartedly and it's probably the best bit of kit I've bought other than the bike. Really helps you with the training.

Can you still buy the 705?

I thought it was 200-500-800 now?

looks like you can :) use a 705 myself, good interesting piece of nav / training kit; not most intuitive to use though but above price is well below an 800; reportedly not as fast calculating routes / plotting directions as the 800 though, but still does IMO a very good job of required task. Can have so much info on the 2 interchangeable screens as well to keep any cyclist happy :)

Accepts sd card maps (i use European City Navigator which has all roads in Europe on it); you can also set up own sd card with for example maps from online sources eg VeloMap, MTB Britain although their coverage of roads / paths is not 100% in some areas.

Seems a lot better functioning with .tcx file sthan .gpx, latter take a long time to load up and if you do not need turn by turn directions the .tcx is better (just use DO COURSE) follow line on map :)

Being `old fashioned` like the thought of the buttons, joystick interface as opposed to teh 800 touchscreen !
  • Buy from this site for a 705, cheapest prices I've seen, and my own purchase from there was spot on. love the 705, one of the best purchases I've made too. Just wish you could get a barfly type mount for it though.
