Er, nope. What do you mean the sidewalls exploded?
Have you any pictures of what happened, and of your setup?

i know it seems far fetched but it did happen, both tyres were wire bead 2.2 and am using sram x7 shifters and r/mech with deore f/mech and crossride wheels

Heard nasty stories about Sram shifters acting as a catalyst for explosive German rubber! Wasnt aware it was the x7 models though.

I believe it happened, but what the hell could it possibly have to do with the shifters and mech?

    Did you use anti-theft dustcaps?

Only way I can see it happening is to run them pretty flat so the sidewalls get damaged, then pump them up nice and hard.
Or ride over lots of rocks.

Were they both from the same batch (if you can tell!). Could be a faulty batch perhaps. Sounds rare to me unless they were damaged already so weakened in some way.

As they were different models they're unlikely to be the same batch.

Had a Conti Mountain King 2.2 Protection sidewall blow out the other day down a fast rocky descent. Running tubeless on UST rims too.

    This is an excellent thread.

That Jedi had problems with his rubber queens deforming after a bit of use, I think.
