want to change 16 gears to 21 or 24

i have a gt tempest 3.0 which has 16 gears but i want to up the gears to 21 or 24

1st can it be done
2nd if so whots the best way round it and how

    Depends, what crankset and cassette you have?
    But probably not without changing at least the crankset, shifter and maybe front mech.

    1. 21 no, 24 yes
    2 it depends on the spec of your bike.

    what is the crankset BCD? 104mm? if yes remove bash and fit a chain ring. new chain and addjust front mech.

    yep its got a bcd 104mm is there any you recommend and also would it be just a standed chain
    and shorten to fit or make bigger

    You need to decide what size chainring you want and buy a new 8-speed chain as your current chain will be too short because of the bigger ring
