Me and some friends stayed in the lakes last weekend to climb Helvellyn, I took my MTB along to have a few hours fun before heading home on Sunday Morn. I cycled up to Pooley bridge and then up through the fell gate and taking a few right turns did the whole track to Howton and then from sandwick to patterdale. The first part was great, all lovely descent with fantastic views of the lake all the way. The sun was out and there was lots of sail dinghys out on the lake, it was very pretty. The track from Sandwick was crazy stupid with rocks though, I would not recommend this part of the track if you don't like picking your bike every 2 minutes to climb down or up little hills made of actual enourmous rocks covered in lots of smaller rocks. It eventually gives way for a mere mile of rideable track before coming into Patterdale. :)
