Changing From Quill to Ahead

Hi
I am in the process of upgrading parts on my bike i have a Giant OCR Team Edition,i want to change/upgrade my stem and handlebars but not sure what i need apart from the obvious , i think i have a quill system may need to change to Ahead is there a convertor i need and how big a job to do /or take to cycle shop to do.

    You will either need to change your headset, forks and get a new stem, or use a converter. If you don't use a converter, you'll need new forks so that there is enough of the steer tube poking out the top to clamp the stem onto. There are converters that are basically quill stems without the "stem" bit. These clamp into the current fork steer tube and you can then attach you're chosen stem onto that. It is not that big a job if you are confident with a set of Allen keys.

    I've used one on my mountain bike. Its not hard to do. Don't forget to put some grease on the parts to prevent seizure problems in the future.
