Lord Coe has declared that since David Beckham's omission from the final GB Olympic football squad that he will be given "Two very clear roles".

Why, we dont owe this man a living!!! These two roles what are they? " Carrying Victoria's shopping" and raising "Adidas brand awareness".

Maybe he should have backed Coke and not Pepsi, he'd have got a place in Psychos squad then.

    1. Good publicity for the Olympics.
    2. Good publicity for Beckham.

Glad to have been of service.

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Davidsee. Think you right on one point.

    2. Brand Beckham.

Just how much money does this bloke need, Think its probably more about feeding the ego of Lady (Mac) Victoria (Beth)

that smile/ scowl could sell a million V+D branded items.

I dont actually mind Beckham, think hes a working class boy made good, but there are certainly more worthy examples to act as advocates for the Olympic ideals. As for Victoria (think I ll have to pop over to bottom bracket to express my opinions on her, and not because any of them are sexual)

I think it was Rory McGrath (spelling?) who referred to the Beckhams as "Thick and Thin". I recall it most times I see either of them and it still makes me smile.

How this over-rated ladyboy and the stick insect he married became the national treasures they appear to be is beyond the ken of any sane man.

Despite the circus surrounding his general life you do have to admit that he is one of the greatest footballers that England has produced - certainly in the last 20 years, surely??

Typical UK mentality seems to be to knock someone when other countries seem to celebrate their products (and I do see successful people as products of a country).

I though he spoke quite well (for a footballer) at his Wimbledom interview. He batted away a question about his absence for the British football team like an experienced politician and was very gracious.

Got to say I used to hate him but don't know whether it's because I'm getting older and more mellow, or that he has he has matured I really quite like him now.

Apparently in the final bid process he met a lot of the influential people and spoke eloquently (yes I know, not something you usual hear said about him!) about what the effect of the Olympics coming to London would be for ordinary working class folk. Apparently even IOC officials are not immune to the Beckham razzle dazzle!

And I think for most people around the world asked to name a British sports person are going to say Beckham.

And you never questioned just why they were interviewing Becks at Wimbledon?

In terms of skill, yes, certainly. He did need a decent manager though, because he couldn't think for himself.

Yer, think the whole post Wimbledon interview thing was just a set up to give him a stage to appear gracious on.

BBC British media fawning around brand Beckham again, smoothing the way for Lord Coe to appease him.

They should make him hand out Ferroro Roche at Olympic dinner parties, He could do keepie uppies with one and then half volley it into Victoria's mouth from across the room, that would make her (Me) smile.

When he was playing for MU my daughter went with her mum to the training ground for his autograph. She was only 12. He came out in his flash car and seeing my little girl stopped the car and got out to sign. He was blocking the road to a couple of other players who hooted their horns at him. He walked back and told them to wait. He then happily posed with my daughter for a couple of pics taken by mum before driving away.
    Not a bad lad IMO.

Shame he ended up instead with a gobby malcontent who think he's bigger than the game itself. Small wonder that Becks cleared off out of Old Trafford after the "boot incident", which I believe may have left him needing stitches for the wound - surprised he didn't sue.

I suspect Murray is currently the name on most people's lips - although hopefully in a week and a bit's time it will be Wiggins instead. :)
