I have a 2011 Focus Cayo Ltd that is in need of tlc.

I did the IOW sportive on Saturday and m bike has taken its toll.

My rear wheel has a massive buckle and a spoke missing, the brake pads have disappeared, the bottom bracket is grinding and the cables keep stretching - making indexing a pain.

Can anyone recommend upgrades to the wheels, pads cables and bb?

Matt

Swisstop pads mate, expensive but worth it in terms of performance, you won't go wrong with them. Personally I use Harry Rowland for wheels and he has served me well, obviously they are handbuilt but if you want ready made my lbs swears by Fulcrum 1's (if you have a wad of cash that is!)

Swisstop greens are very good break pads. So are Koolstop salmons, but or less money. They are about even in overall quality with the Swisstops having maybe a slight edge in performance with anf Koolstops enjoying a bit extra in the durability stakes. You won't go wrong with either.

Thanks guys, I'll look into the pads and Harry for wheels.

Any suggestions for cables? Are they much of a muchness?

Why are you riding a bike with a missing spoke ? Just get the spoke replaced and of course it will be out of true with a spoke missing - that's going to affect your braking performance too.

    I'd just get it serviced.

At what point did i say i was riding it like it?

As per my OP this happened on Saturday.

The reason for asking about replacing the wheels is that they are known to be heavy and if an upgrade to lighter wheels isnt that expensive i would do that instead.

The old wheels could always be repaired at a later date if i get a turbo trainer,

Its always going to be far cheaper to replace a spoke than bin the wheels.
I think Halfords quote £7.50 to true a wheel. So its that plus the cost of a spoke.
I've replaced a few myself and its very easy - and the spokes are usually £2 or less.

Same with brake pads - replace them yourself - cheap and easy.

Its cheap and easy. Look online for instructions on wheel truing - you can sort out most out of true wheels in a few minutes. All you need is a spoke key. Handy to know.
