How tight?

I've recently put a set of Speedplay Zero pedals on my bike, and have the cleats on my shoes.

However, within the instructions it mentions not doing up the second set of screws until 'you feel tension and the only s quarter turn more'

So I followed this, knowing full well that if I do the, too tight then they will struggle to clip in. Annoyingly now though a couple of the screws have dropped out.

I've got replacements now, but I'm just conscious of this happening again and me having a fall because of it.

So anyone with any advice on just how tight they should be.

Oh and anyone thinking of getting clip ins, then I'd go for these, they are a doddle to get in and out of!

you do up the cleat screws until you feel resistance, then give a quarter turn more, there are detents under the screw heads that cause distinct steps in force once you reach that point

i've had several sets, never had a problem with the cleat screws coming loose, sounds like you need to go a bit tighter

I always do them up a bit tighter than a quarter turn after feeling tension, the trick is just not to do them up so tight that the springs can't move properly. You can test whether the springs can still move by pressing them with a blunt object. I also always put standard (blue) threadlock on the screws, that really helps prevent them working loose over time.

When tightening the screws on mine I take it to the point where I can feel them biting but endup probably tightening another 1/8 of a turn cause to tighten them up a full 1/4 turn feels like it would be gorrila tight

    No problems here.

I've always done mine up pretty tight (as tight as I would any screw really) and not had a problem with it stopping the cleats working, I also use a bit of loctite 248 on the threads.
