Yeah, the cage on the guide needs to literally be as close to the chain as you can possibly get it (1/2mm) to stop the chain coming off. A bit of rub is normal, a bit annoying, but I just ignore it.

As above, closer the better, otherwise it won't do its job properly.

IT's much closer now lads... TBH i doubt it's a big worry as the bike is an XC bike and has never in it's life dropped the chain. I don't take it to the big stuff, i have an AM bike for that.

    No pics though... raining again.

You'd be surprised, a quick backpedal over anything even a little bumpy can derail the chain.

when you have a front mech, that keeps things running in the front. Now there's no mech, you will need something.

So you could leave on the front mech and adjust the throw screws ....

One of the guys riding with us in the alps just cable tied his front mech up so that it didn't move and got rid of the shifter. Didn't work as well as a proper chain guide, but it did the job.

Why use cable ties when you already have limit screws built into it though?

Yeah i tried that too but no good, only worked for 5 gears, other 5 rubbed.

Mine is all fitted and working, although i'm debating whether the chainguide will be going back to Superstar with the description of '$^%^%&$%& load of %$£$$ as it has a tendancy to move and flap about no matter how tight i do up the bolts.

It has 1 last try... then comes off and goes back to them.

Which bit is moving and flapping about?
