Need a new frame as mine is broken

A couple of months ago my frame on my Scott Reflex 60 broke next to the rear dérailleur. I am investigating getting it repaired but in the quite likely event that this is not possible, I will need a new frame. I am on a fairly limited budget, maximum of between £100-£150. I am open to the possibility of a second hand frame and have found a few, made by Kona, Carrera and Specialized. I have also found a few new frames but I would like some guidance on whether they are any good.

I do mainly road riding but also occasionally like to do some basic off roading, nothing too crazy :)

Thanks for any guidance on whether those frames are good value or what makes to look out for second hand.

I know nothing about any of the others but the On-One Inbred is excellent

If you are going to swap components over you need to make a list of what you have and make sure they'll fit the frame you want to buy.

The Inbred offers VFM but watch that it suits you - the inbred is designed to have a short stem and has some odd steerign characteristics - I had one for a while and it was horrible - its only redeeming feature for me was that it could fit a rack and made a good commuter for me.

Merlin Malt frames should be inexpensive but as you say I'd be tempted to go for a second hand hardtail frame. People are often upgrading from a hardtail to a FS frame and have spare HT's to flog - look for a Rockhopper or a Trek 6500 along with various others - should be a good few to chose from in your budget on ebay or classifieds here and pink bike.

I just found this one froma quick look - http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1124743/ ad from here but linked to pinkbike. If its your size that's not bad.

Update: Has been confirmed that I need a new frame by a man in our local bike shop who does bike building in his spare time.
He also happens to have an old Specialized Hard Rock frame floating around that I will be going to have a look at with my brother at the weekend.
Should also have said that I need a 20" frame.

Thanks for all the advice so far :)

I had a Hardrock frame for a year. Wouldn't recommend it and they come in 19" or 21"
The On-One Inbred is much nicer

He just confirmed my suspicions to be honest. I never really thought that it would be repairable I just had to double check.

Have you spoken to Scott? I know you've said it's broken but it's got to be worth approaching them, hasn't it?

I'm based in Hillingdon but have limited access to a car.
Have already looked up the Scott Warranty and that ran out a while ago.

Few bike shops do welding, worth tallking to an alluminium wleder for an opinion, if it's gone at a weld it's probably weldable, mid tube not.

Personally I'd look at getting a decent frame used, a fairly good frame such as a 'hopper or SOME of the hardrocks should cost less than £60. Look for Carrera Vulcan frames on ebay, they go cheaper but are just as good and just as light as a 'hopper (and made in the same factory by the same people), lots of people think my resprayed Kraken (identical to Vulcan) frame is more expensive than it is! So don't rule out a 'tatty' frame and respray!

I've got a spare 18'' inbred frame, PM if interested. I've had a few frames now (including merlin) & the inbred was my favorite. Great VFM. Currently on a Kinesis Decade Prestige Versa - again very good.
