Running Seatpost Shims Long Term

This is technically for my road bike as I've got a spare 27.2 I Beam post I want to run in my 30.0 road bike but I've been running one in my Rocky for ages and did in my Marin for a while as well. I've heard people say that this can damage the frame if you run them long term. Is this true? I'm no lightweight at just over 100kg so I suppose I would be putting more stress through the frame. Don't really want to have to fork out for two new seatposts, they aren't that cheap any more.

makes no difference and can be prefferental in some situations."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Unless it's really short (like some Post Moderne ones were) in which case you may not have enough to cover the seat tube/top tube junction.0

Me too. Can't think of a situation where a tight tube in tube full length is not better... Mmmmm0

Maybe if you have a dropper post, like a Gravity Dropper in 27.2 but you have a larger seat tube.0
-
Why would that be beneficial?
Must admit the only thing I can think is that it's marginally less likely to seize than a correctly sized post.0 -
It would mean you could run your expensive dropper post on a different frame, that's a benefit although not in a structural sense.0

And protecting the Finnish on a post.
More overlap does not actually help anything. It just gives more surface area to bond together."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Will they pedal for me when I'm knackered?
And, more importantly, if I do employ some Finns to help me get through the Coed y Brenin enduro in a few months, will it be classed as cheating?0 -
Did you not know that their language has a great effect on the surface of any material exposed to it.
Go listen to some Lordi with some headphones on."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
