What to look for???

Hi all, as I have seen there are alot of topics on buying a new bike for around the £500 mark, I would just like to know what is the first thing you should look at when buying a bike. Is it the forks or the gears? I would just like to know as I seen most people on here recommend the Voodoo Hoodoo as the best bike for sub £500 but the Rockrider 8.1 seems to have the better components in my limited knowledge. I just wondered if someone could advise. Cheers

    the 8.1 has the best overall spec at this price, but both bikes are very good, best advice, try both for size if possible, either one is well worth the money, just down to personal preference.
