Because they're leading the team classification. It's a new thing for the TdF this year.

To denote them as leading team in the 'Team Classification'... used to be yellow numbers and/or yellow caps.
  • I'm pretty sure I heard a commentator say they were wearing them after being 1st in the team classification after the prologue.

I certainly hope they're not wearing them through choice!

I'm going to stick my neck out and say I've started to quite like the yellow helmets.

I'm still undecided... but it certainly makes it easier to pick out where they are in the peloton!

they said on the coverage that all teams were asked to bring a batch of yellow helmets - I wonder if team argos even bothered.

They look like Bob the Builder.

Now I see... I agree it's easier to spot in the peloton but I can't say Iam a fan of them :0

    +1
Plus if another team takes over as the lead team (unlikely I know  ) then it might become a little confusing for some

RSNT now leads the team classification. I wonder if they'll sport yellow TT helmets?

It's for a time trial so not quite sure what will happen. Sky will be back in them after the rest day.
  • it does make them easier to spot, but I don't really like them. Interestingly, Froome had a spotty helmet on to match his KOM jersey yesterday.

On the subject of "easy to spot" anyone else get confused between EBH and Cav at times? Their jerseys look similar on shots from a distance.

Yes, I've had them mixed up a few times especially when trying to work out who has crashed! In the Giro I kept mixing Cav up with someone on another team who was riding one of former Soviet countries national champs jersey. It's lucky Knees isn't German champion this year or I'd be completely confused.

Anyone know why RSNT are not wearing the yellow lid's?

Have the organisers decided it was a bad idea after all? ;-)

Two of the teams refused the yellow helmets. Not sure who the 2nd team was.

It would have been Navardauskas from Lithuania

This was covered on Eurosport today, apparently the wearing of yellow helmets is voluntary and 18 out of 20 teams agreed, RSNT are one of the objectors.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
