    Skips or slips.

skips - try's to change gear.

Slips - stays in the same gear.

Spring only pulls to the cable limit.

I ment the spring throught the middle that pulls against the cable behind where it says slx and it mainly jumps up the gears with a bit of a clunk I'm wondering if its defective because i can push it back up through the gears with very little force thanks for all your help

So does it skip up a gear (smaller cog) as you say or down a gear (bigger rear cog)? The cable stops it shifting up, the spring it shifting down, still sounds more like adjustement.

Easy to post photo's with a phone, just get an App for the relevant host (like photobucket) and post that way!
