I've started developing a pain in the back of my right knee when going for longer (40+ mile) rides.

I am thinking it might be something to do with the position of my cleats. Has anyone had a similar experience ?

Classic symptom of hyper-extension ie. over-stretching your leg. Try lowering your saddle a centimetre or so and see how you get on. If symptoms persist, may be worth consulting a bike fit specialist. FWIW cleat alignment problems are more symptomatic of side-to-side knee pain.

I should add there are quite a few online bike fit calculators e.g. input your measurements and it should give you a reasonably accurate measurement for your saddle height - at least it gives you a point of reference to work from.

Great, thanks for your responses. For info I have recently changed bikes and the 'injury' was picked up whilst riding my old bike - I did always feel the saddle may have been slightly too high. I had my LBS fit me correctly for the new one so hopefully this will just heel itself now that I am riding a properly sized bike.

    cheers.

Hi i had a similar back of knee pain a couple of years ago which were diagnosed as Bakers Cysts, they clear up with rest apparently but i also lowered my saddle a fraction and kept on riding and they went away.
