Im thinking ahead about needing a winter bike, a few options ive considered.

1. buy a new (probably ribble) winter bike with cheapest groupset.
2. buy a new (probably ribble) winter bike with upgraded groupset (sram force) ,then swap the groupsets from my planet x pro carbon (sram apex and rival mix), that way i upgrade my best bike.
3. buy a frame (possibly planet x team alu, which are £140 at moment) and try to pick up second hand components from the classifieds and ebay. and build it up over the next few months.
4. buy a frame and swap all the bits from my px over and then buy new upgraded bits for the px next spring.
5. buy a second hand mid range bike
6. buy a decathlon triban3 for £300 and make do with that.

im giving myself too many options i know, would like to hear what other people think.

    Just use your planet x.

This seems like the most cost effective and obvious solution.

It wont melt in the rain

You can put some guards on it if you want to.

    7. Use your summer bike as a winter bike and buy a new one next year :D

Buy a cyclocross bike and another set of tyres, then you can race 'cross over the winter as well (great fun and training) swap the tyres over for road rides. Many cross bikes also take full mudguards easily.

hmm, yeh, i think thats a good idea, gives me an excuse for a shiny new one next year. Can you buy mud guards that fit tight clearances?
