brake replacement

I'm thinking of replacing my tektro calipers these are pulled by sram levers, the new brakes would shimano 105 but according to the blurb they should be used in conjunction with levers st.5700-6700-7900 for correct lever ratio. Lever pulls cable- brake operates - job done, is this a wrong assumption & lever ratio does have to be taken into account?

I swapped my Tektros off my Boardman carbon for ultegras as they were dirt cheap from a mate and they swapped straight out no problems. That's with SRAM Rival levers.0

Mr. b/b, many thanks for your reply & anybody else that may offer info.0

I went the other way and put Sram Rival with 6700 shifters, they work fine, they're lighter and apparently have more stopping power. Personally i just wanted black calipers and these are cheap at Ribble.0

Shimano are forever quoting stuff and yes it may make them work at their optimum designed performance but it will still work.
Its just that Shimano will claim it will not work as well as it could/should.Yellow is the new Black.0
