When I'd seen it being built I wondered how he was going to pedal it with the chainset there. I would never have guessed the solution would be enormous crazy looking cranks!
Wouldn't having the chainset down the other end have enabled a simpler chain line solution without the need for the crazy cranks? Or does the dual chain system allow a much bigger gear?0 -

Used to go to Metropolis nightclub there in the 90's, think there was also a good bar in the high st called Houlihans or something smilar.0 -
I'll post an observation of frenchfighter's great post about our celtic genius just to keep this up on the first page.
Whatever contrivance GB has ever made has always looked really uncomfortable to me but there's no denying the fact that they've always worked, so far as I know. The face-forward body position, c of g above the wheels and articulated pedal affair that he's knocked up doesn't look half as efficient as Sam Whittingham's between wheels recliner. When it becomes faired-in will its frontal area be more or less than Whittingham's? Heavier - lighter? And so on.

Many laughed at his 'Old Faithful' bike and positions but he had the last laugh - at least until British and World Cycling plotted against him. ThIS latest 'bike' may not end up as the finished design but with his track record, it would be a brave man to dismiss his prototypes. I wish him well in his efforts.
It's good to see Graeme Obree out and about trying out his ideas with a laugh and a smile. That in itself is a success given where he was a few short years ago.
Next time I'm back, I'll be looking out for low flying cyclists along Saltcoats prom!! If I ask nicely maybe he would even have a cycle with me0 -
Oopps' meant no offense with my choice of language, specially as someone who has suffered from anxiety and had a depressive mother. Just for the record his eccentricity is much admired and I genuinely hope he succeeds.0

That was brilliant. Well, nearly, I was just settling in and then it finished! A swift nine minutes.
I'm agog for the outcome in the USA, whenever that might be. I think he has more hope of pulling it off than that Olympic gold medallist (whose name quite escapes me) and the overpriced Lotus (was it?) bike that was brilliant at falling over.

I don't get the forward position - surely lying on your chest will really restrict your breathing capacity.You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

From what I can gather he's actually going to be resting on his shoulders and his hips. I'd have thought that the hip support would interfere with his legs and/or diaphragm, but I assume he knows more about bike building and ergonomics than I do!
His pedalling motion is pretty unusual too- in that he just pushes down on the long pedal things and pulls up on them- supposedly with no dead spot, so his legs are working hard all the time (I suspect I haven't really explained this very well I'm afraid). I did read somewhere that this is generally a bad idea, as the ratio of muscle contraction/relaxation using the standard pedalling motion was already pretty much ideal for the best muscle performance.
Still, this is Graeme Obree, the only man Jens Voigt calls 'sir'*, so I'm not going to argue with him.
*Probably not true, but a 'Graeme Obree Facts' would be fun, wouldn't it?0 -
Thought to revive this thread as a diversion away from Wiggo, Cav and the rest in their hour of glory (well done lads! hope there's more to come) for those, like me, slightly befuddled at the moment by all the cycling riches appearing to be happening all at once here for Britain. :shock:
