Youth Racing Gear Restriction Help Please
Hi all, I'd be grateful for a bit of advice on sorting out the gear restrictions for youth racing (limited to developments of 6.05m U12 and 6.45m U14).
I know how to use online calculators to work out what current teeth combinations give... and also how to 'screw off' the gears to comply. But, as our current setup (screwing off the large chainring) gives a less then optimal chainline in the lowest gear, I was thinking that it must be generally 'known' what are the optimum cassette/chainring combinations for youth racing.... to optimise chainline and also gear range as well as getting the lowest gear as near as possible to the cutoff.
If anyone knows what these are given the above development limitations for U12 and U14, I'd be grateful.
The little one is bending my ear that she's spinning too much! Thanks for any advice on this!

A 46 x 15 and 16 will give you the highest gear you can use for both age grps. Combined with a cassette that has the smallest gaps between gears above these sprocket sizes.
Tire size will also make a difference as will how accurate the gear checker is with placement of crank arm when he pushes the bike back.
Most 8/9/10 sp cassettes will have the 15/16t sprocket giving a decent chain line.0
