Redline Asset 2011

I wanted something to play about on whilst the trails round here are unrideable.
They've just finished a new BMX track at the bottom of my street, so it only seemed right to grab myself a clown bike, erm, I mean BMX.
I've had a quick test out on the street to make sure everything is tight etc, first thought is that it is HARD to ride. I mean, to the point where it's almost like learning how to ride a bike again. Without wanting to make too many excuses, it's not made any easier by the fact my knee is still a little stiff. I'm sure it'll come easy enough with a bit of time.
Anyway, down to business:

Awwwww, bless, she's so tiny:
Oh, and I only notived the reflectors after I'd taken the pictures, they're now gone. Although I AM now looking for some spokey dokeys
Serious question now.
Do I keep the red Odyssey pedals, which are plastic, but actually feel ok, and are proper BMX pedals.
OR
Do I stick on my black MG1s?
Pics to help you choose:

pretty nice!
i would stick the mg1s on tbh. they'll be more grippy and they are basically as thick as the stock ones so your not losing ground clearance0 -
Oh my god, you've bought a rigid, steel, singlespeed with funny size wheels.
I hope you're happy.0 -
Looks good, they do take some getting used too, just wait until your getting air on it thats proper weird the first few times,
maybe put your bars forward a tad, they look inline with your forks which is right but I always found it pushed me to far off the back, by moving them about 20mm forward I found it was a much easier position to ride.
regarding pedals go with the mg1s.0 -
That shit is tight bro.
Or something similar.
I like it - I'd get a BMX but have no where to ride it plus a 40+ year old man on a BMX - laughable.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -

Good call. They're now pretty much straight up.YeehaaMcgee wrote:Oh my god, you've bought a rigid, steel, singlespeed with funny size wheels.

Hadn't thought of it like that.

That's like my obvious
Looks good though, my first biking love as a kid was bmx think its going to be my next purchase as I think it'll help my bike handling in general, plus I look a right d1ck over our local bmx track on my shopper.0 -

Just remember what the court said about the minimum distance you need to keep from those kids.0 -
CWNT find a small step up jump and you will be doing rotations on it within a couple of hours, they are so easy to waz around its scary.0

Ignoring the funny size wheels, rigid steel singlespeed thing for a moment, that is a lvoely looking toy.
I've had to delay getting one for myself to play with since the car really does need a service, and I need to pay for this winter's holiday.
Ah well.0 -
Tell me about it. I really wanted a new camera, but ultimately I wanted this more.
Mancity - Hoping to get it down the BMX track over the next couple of days (IOM has a bank hol tomorrow and fri fo I'm off work). There is a small skatepark right next to that track too so I'm going to have a look at that too.
Really need to spend a bit more time on the big bike this weekend though if possible. Got an uplift planned for tomorrow, which is nice.0 -

Remember on the skatepark, speed is not really needed for tricks as bowls and the lips will give you the lift you need, start slow and get a feel for the bike coming of the lip as it will go straight up and you need to push the bike level to land.
Hope you have a laugh, they are great fun.0 -
Will post the results from hospital (again)0

I hope this is what you're riding at the Crudfest later this month
Looks awesome! I'd love one, but my car is eating my wallet at the moment and I can't afford anythingIt takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

Cleaned the Reed for the first time in about 3 months earlier (pointless given the current weather I know).

Nowt wrong with that fella, Ive just bought a Se Racing PK ripper XLR a full on race BMX and I'm 37 !!! lol
Nice BMX !!PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY0 -
It is good fun to be fair. And the BMX track is always rideable, even after all the proper trails have turned to crap.
It's a pretty good workout too. Have to say, I'm still rubbish compared to most of the other people down there (most of whom are half my age too) but I'm having a blast.
Trying to focus a bit more on getting out on the reed over the next couple of weeks though ahead of the cruddy weekender and uplift.0 -
Oi!
How you getting on with it? you hitting up the jumps at the track yet?
Watching the Olympics yesterday, thought of you trying the bike out0 -
Yeh I'm enjoying it. Not using it as much as I would like due to work, and trying to get out on the "proper" bike more, but it's a great laugh just to muck about on. Helps with "da skillz" that are transferrable to the other bike too, which is a bonus. Felt much more comfortable hitting jumps and such when we went to GT and Inners the other week.
Excellent value imho.0 -
I went down to the local park last night where they have taken down the old ramps and are building proper bowls etc, at the moment theres just a 4 leaf clover but if the rest of it turns out ok, i may have to join you in a beardie bike.0
-
You seem to be confused. A beardy bike is what you already ride. What I have (aside from the awesomeness of the bionicobvious) is a clown bike.0

Give it time and you will be trading it in for a 26" dj, then you will notice a massive improvment on the trails.
You managed a manual across those rhythm sections yet?0 -
Just wondering if, after a while with the clown bike you still enjoy it/find it helpful with skills and that?
The reason I ask is that me and the mrs just rode past our local bmx track this evening and watched the kids riding about, they were pretty good. She actually said that I should get a bmx
I'd love to get good at it, and it's way easier for me to ride to the track in the park than drive out for decent mtb ride. But I'm 33 and 6'2. I got a feeling it's a bad idea, but seeing as she's actually encouraging me, I don't feel I should pass up on the opportunity!0 -
It's fine. You'll look like a proper bellend (I'm a hair over 6ft and 16st) and get absolutely destroyed by the kids there, but it's still a good laugh. I've recently taken to going down there for an hour before work while there is nobody about to point and laugh
It does help building skills, I personally find it helps building core strength too. It's a very different kind of workout to gonig out on the big bike for 5-6hrs.
I don't use mine as much as I'd like to, but I'd not get rid. It was only cheap, and was only ever intended to be used as an occasional toy.0
