Campagnolo Scirocco Review (sort of)

I've read reviews that say fitting tyres on the Scirocco is almost impossible. This comment almost put me off buying them, but I thought "I'm tough, I'll get them on no problem".

Well, I just bought some Scirocco's for my wife and I was indeed finding it IMPOSSIBLE to get the final bit of the tyres over the rims - even a tyre lever wouldn't do it.

Anyway, I discovered the following... I hope it helps:

1) Inflate inner tube a little
2) Mount tyre ready to accept inner tube
3) Insert inner tube all round
4) Begin pressing the open side of the tyre onto the rim, equally, from both sides of the valve - so you end up opposite the valve.

All as normal, so far.

Now... here's why I think people find it difficult... the final bit of the tyre will NOT go on to the rim with the tube still semi-inflated (as it does with all my other tyres/wheels), so...

5) Take ALL of the air out of the tube and 'hey presto!!!' the remaining tyre slips easily over the rim.

Re-inflate and off you go.

Simples.

PS. The wheels look gorgeous on her Bianchi Infinito... I was unsure about the non-traditional spoke pattern on the rear, but it looks great in the flesh.

The problem is that she won't be able to fix a puncture on the road, hence won't feel confident to go out on her own. I have never met a girl who could fit a tyre on a Scirocco wheel

I think somebody has completely missed the point...

I have two pairs of Sciroccos and have just come in from the shed in a huff because I can't get the tyres on, today. Some days I manage, other days I just don't have the strength. My hands usually end up covered in blisters. ********* things!
