Headset query

Hi,
headset seems to be squeaking a bit so was going to have a bash at taking it apart, cleaning and greasing it. Is this fairly straitforward for a novice and can anyone recommend an online video? For often should this need to be done? In terms of grease - is there anything specific for the headset bearings? Or just teflon grease from Halfords ok?
