Nose Plugs

Hello,

Watching le tour de france prologue today I saw Cadel Evans warming up with bits of cotton wool up his nose. I also saw Chris Froome racing with them, although twitter says he just forgot to take them out for the race.

What are they used for?

Thanks

They're soaked in olbas oil or Vicks or something like that to open up the nasal passages to ensure good air flow.

I think they take inspiration from this:

Froome... jesus-wept... all you had to do was 'snort' and the things would have gone flying! Kinda defeats the purpose of opening up ones 'airways' if only to block them with cotton-wool!

Mind you... didn't seem to slow him down any!
