Got it last week. It replaces my beloved Boardman Team Carbon.

Great looking bike but it looks like a funny gearing & wheel choice.

Gears = compact with an 11:28 cassette. I can see the argument for a double but I liked having a compact on my Boardman and preferred to keep it that way. I did ride a bike with a double 11:25 combo and on Streatley Hill I didn't like being handcuffed by the gearing.

I'll probably end up with two sets of wheels as well - the more aero ones seen on the bike and a lighter hand built set - I'll switch between the two depending on where I'm riding.

Bike is a large -58cm. I'm finding it very comfy and that drop isn't an issue for me. I'm doing a 100 mile sportive in just over a week so that will be a good acid test of comfort.

Tyres are Pro Race 3's - I picked up them cheap from Chain Reaction and they work nicely with latex tubes. It came with Conti 4000's but I sold them.

It really is a stunning bike on so many levels.

Nice bike, chainrings do look tiny though. Think I'd de-sticker the wheels ands go for the full stealth look.
Those vcls seatposts have quite a setback, looks like you could almost do with an inline post.

Either you bought the wrong size bike or you need fitting properly or you need an inline post.

    Nice frame.

I've updated the pic to reflect my positional tweaks.

I took what Nap said about saddle position etc and after a bit of knee pain, I've tweaked the saddle position and attached a slightly shorter stem as it did feel like I was reaching a little too far. I had to do a similar thing to my old Boardman which has a similar geometry to this frame.

After the minor adjustments, it's now all good and has been for the past 2 months. No issues at all and it really is a lovely bike - there are some cracking deals to be had on them at the moment as well.

    Sha-wing.
  • Bike looks great. Re: setup, you're spot on. Yes your saddle is fwd and your stem is short but on a smaller frame you'd need a boat mast. Good choice on frame size.

It's too bad the VCLS post isn't in-line, but there's no reason NOT to ditch it and get a Deda Dritissimo...

  • Is that a glory-hole in your fence?
  • Regarding the Saddle-bar drop, how tall are you out of interest?

I knew someone would comment on the fence...............

    I'm exactly 6 foot tall.
  • Hi bisoner - I notice that you have had both the CLX and the Aeroad, and as I am currently deliberating between the 2, I wondered if I could ask your opinion as to which might suit me best please?

I'm at best really a recreational rider, not club, although I aspire to be, but just love doing long sportives, I'm no racer and never will be. I'm also 78kg and not the right side of 45 :). I currently have a SRAM Rival Planet X SL Pro with Mavic Ksyriums, and like it a lot, but am smitten with the look of Canyons and everything else just ticks boxes for me. My budget is at around £3k, and have narrowed things down to either the Ultimate CLX 9.0 Pro, or the Aeroad CF 9.0 SL. Is there much of a difference comfort wise between the two bikes, and would you point me towards either one in particular, or even another from the Canyon range?

Any help you can give or considerations I might take into account would be very gratefully appreciated. I find myself loving the aesthetics of the Aeroad, but suspect that the CLX is the better ride for me?? Thanks in advance....

  • very high up on my list once ive worn my scott out. I think Aeroad with DA Di2 and team colours will be the order of the day. Hope it rides as well as it looks. Ive got a huge saddle to bar drop and it feels fine for me but im off to see adrian timmis next month so that will sort mine out. enjoy lovely to see a pic.

Looks quite high front end. Isn't the 58cm frame quite small though in comparison to most 58 bike frames? The SLX 58 has tt length of about 56.5 or something
