CHOICES

Following a knee injury which has put a hopefully, temporary halt to hill walking and canoeing I rediscovered cycling which does not effect the knee.
My mate lent me a bike, sort of mountain bike and I am now considering buying my own steed.
So far my search has resulted in a hybrid bike in that I don't want to be a road racer or hard core mountain biker, but bike trails and some tarmac, possibly with some short tours with tent etc.
I seem to have narrowed my limited search down to a Specialized Crosstail or much cheaper Carrera. Clearly the former has more quality but as biking will (if knee behaves) be a secondary outdoor interest is the price difference/quality worth while?
Cheers
