Hoodoo Fury - Can you help me decide

Hi All, I have decided to bin my beloved Scott S50 FB Roadie in favour of getting messy on the dirt 
My budget is around £600 and I have a shortlist of 2 bikes, both 2012 models:
Voodoo Hoodoo & Carrera Fury
I just wondered what the general consensus is on which is the better bike? I have riden them both (be it briefly) and would be happy with either really, I'm happy to upgrade parts as and when (will defo add remote lockout if I go for the fury) One of the biggest confusions for me is the 9 speed (Hoodoo) versus 10 speed (Fury) - does this really make difference??
To confuse matters more there is also an outside chance that I can get my hands on a Cannondale SL3 2012 at just over my budget - does this eclipse this rest and worth the extra or is it just paying for a better known brand?
I will use it for a short (10mile) commute but will be looking to use it for 20-30 mile jaunts around the south downs at weekends and maybe a XC coast to coast in the future..

i agree strech your budget to the boardman comp. love mine. personally i think rockrider is ugly but thats just me lol.Boardman comp 20120
