Anybody used them? Came up in a conversation with a US colleague who said he'd fitted "hundreds" of them as a bike mech in the 70's. Theory is that they knock out sharp objects before they enter the tyre any further. Not recommending them just intrigued...

They do look logical....
I had a similar idea as a boy, regarding a small brush just touching the tread slightly to the rear above the contact patch on each tyre. Idea was to brush off water before it could get flung into the air. Never came up with a sensible mounting system though - and never thought of it again until your post jogged the noggin!FCN 5 belt driven fixie for city bits
