Air forks sound like spring forks - help!

I have owned my Canyon Nerve XC for around 9 months. Very happy with it.

Last time I took it out, however, the forks started to make a noise. I took it out again yesterday and the same noise appeared. It's hard to explain but it sounds like the fork has a old spring in it (i.e if you were to bounce up and down on an old spring mattress, it would sound similar). It's not loud but it doesn't inspire confidence - whenever the forks contract it almost seems to be making a squeaky 'oomph' sound.

Up until last week, they have been silent and all other forks I have had - coil and air - have also been silent, so the noise is quite disconcerting!

The forks are Rock Shox Rebas and have hardly been abused and were serviced around 2 months ago. Any ideas what it could be and how I get rid of it?

the valves working? does it change as you change the rebound setting?

I haven't tried to alter anything yet. I'll try altering the rebound setting tonight and see if it makes a difference.

I know that rebas and recons can make a whooshing/squelching noise, certainly on rebound, as the oil whizzes through the damper. It almost sounds like a squeak when done at pace, it's perfectly normal. Mine have got a little noisier since new, but the performance hasn't changed.

Turn rebound damping all the way off (rabbit) - should be no noise. Turn rebound damping fully on (tortoise) - should be a sucky squelchy noise.

    Perfectly normal.
