In need of help!

Hi im looking to take up mountain biking and was wondering if anyone could help ive been digging about the internet for a couple of days now and still feel no futher forward in choosing a first bike.
Just wondering if anyone had an opionon in what i should buy im 5ft 7" and about 73kg so am guessing i dont need a big bike.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What is your budget, and what terrain do you plan to ride? Also what bike shops are local to you?

Around £300-500, plan on riding on trails. I stay in Dumfriesshire in a small village im not really sure what bike shops there is except from halfords.

Standard answer would be look at Rockriders from Decathlon, or Carrera or Voodoo Hoodoo from Halfords
Probably the best deal at this price

I would avoid a Specialised at this price.

Also look on eBay and post a few links to bikes you see on here. You could grab a bargin if your willing to be patient.
