    My brother and I are in Basingstoke, we generally go out ellisfield, the camdovers, wallops, Oakley, Whitchurch etc.
    He's a little mountain goat though and I'm built for descending.

    If you want a nice ride on Saturday (in Basingstoke) you can do far worse than joining the Oakley Pedallers. Friendly and social rides at slow and medium pace. Rides are around 30-60 miles on some really good routes.

    I've also just found Strava so am targeting lots of the efforts in and around Basingstoke on my solo rides.

    Hi, I normally ride around the Whitchurch area and west of there. You can get some nice balanced rides criss crossing the Test valley.

    Has anyone ridden with these guys? Normally ride on my own but finding it difficult to get motivated so looking to ride with others but don't want to find that I'm totally out of my depth.

    Cheers,

  • Hello,
    I live in Basingstoke and will be getting a road bike at the end of Aug (post Olympics) I want to see if I can get a decent bike in the hopefully inevitable sales for under £450. If I take to it I will get a better cycle. I hoping for one any of the following: Giant Defty 5, Specialized Allez compact or maybe a Ribble 7005 Audax.
    I will then have to learn how to ride it, ,y last racing bike was a rally arena with the gears on the stem in the 80-81 season when I was 11-12yrs.

    I've ridden on their social ride three times. I initially had the same concerns as you but had an enjoyable ride each time. They are a very friendly bunch.

    Thanks for that think I'll probably try to get along this Saturday, not sure which ride I'll go for though.

  • A few rides around the Basingstoke area - I don't live there but I ride around the town and back home;

    The advantage of the area to the east is that its flat as a pancake. To the west you have Hannington to make up for it..
  • Myself and Donkeywings are also in Basingstoke, we are trying to get a bit of reasonable fitness and are failry new to road riding, but have Mountain Biked for a while. We tend to do between 15 and 40 miles a around 14 - 15 mph, so certainly no Wiggins or Armstrongs etc. Might be an idea to set up a thread on the rides section for Basingstoke riders letting others know if they are going out and fancy some company?
    My biggest fear is that should I crash, burn and die, my Wife would sell my stuff based upon what I told her I paid for it.
