Hi - I am buying a turbo trainer and rather than changing my tyre every time i use it i would like to have a wheel i can use for training with. What's my cheapest solution? Any recommendations appreciated.
My bike uses disk brakes by the way - but i'm not even sure you need a brake on a turbo trainer... do you?

Sale wheels from Merlin - I think I saw a 35 quid one in there the other day. You dont need brakes on a turbo but youd want to make sure you didnt accidentally depress the lever if you didnt have a disc in it - put a brake spacer between the pads.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0

Would you possibly need a spare chain as well? As your current chain will have meshed and worn together with the cassette already on the bike. I cant imagine gears skipping a bit being much of a problem on a turbo though.0

What do you think of this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rear-Alloy-MT ... 1016wt_8712010 Specialized Rockhopper

Hmm I need to learn more about wheels - I just don't know enough about them. For now I guess I will live with swapping tyres but if anyone can be so kind as to point me to the cheapest wheel for a rockhopper 2010 i would be ever so grateful. I need cheapest wheel, casette, and either disk or disk spacer that are worth having. It's a cheeky request i know.. i really should know all this.

Never used one but if you need to shift gears it is probably easier to change the tyre than reindex the mech each time.I don't do smileys.

Generally the cassette/freehub will be slightly different between wheels, so you may (likely) need to adjust the gears slightly.I don't do smileys.

Wow fitted turbo tyre. That sucker was HaRD to get on Going to make swapping tyres a mission. Unless I can get the hang of it I am definitely going to need to buy a spare wheel and cassette. In fact I popped a tube as I resorted to using a tyre lever. Guy in shop showed me how to do it properly so I will give it a try.2010 Specialized Rockhopper

Guys what does screw on mean ? I really need a spare wheel for the turbo. Changing the trainer tyre is too hard. I have found the same cassette as I have for cheap money ... What do I need to look for in the wheel? I want to get something cheap on eBay - what keywords do I need to look out for?2010 Specialized Rockhopper

I know I new something that can take a 9 speed cassette and a qr release skewer.
By the way what does 8 speed hub mean? I thought the number of speeds was defined by the cassette.2010 Specialized Rockhopper

8/9/10 speed hubs are the same. 7 are not.0

Ahh thx. What does screw on mean in terms of wheels?2010 Specialized Rockhopper

They don't take cassettes: the freewheel mechanism is integrated into the cogs and screws on to the wheel. Outdated and old system.0

Ah thx and does solid axle mean it can't take a skewer?2010 Specialized Rockhopper

Yup. I wouldn't spend too much, you'll be so bored after 5 minutes, it'll probably be back on Ebay before long.I don't do smileys.

I have a quando wheel on my rat bike and they're heavy but work fine. No problems with it yet and i've done around 1k miles so far.0
