Phone4u mugged me, i pay 10 squids for insurance that doesnt do what it says on the tin "Premier Plan/Policy Admin", does anybody else pay for this scam?

I thought i was paying them a premium so i didnt have to worry about my galaxy nexus phone being damaged, but after lookin into a replacement as my phone doesnt let me make calls. Could be water, could be the headphone jack snapped off inside  either way it looks like i've to wait for paperwork and put in a claim o_0 could be weeks if i'm lucky, an they have a cheek to charge an excess fee for this..

What are other peoples experience with this company? :?:
I've been with orange forever, usually they can do next day swap if you have a whinge

Unless you really are frequently clumsy, forgetful or get mugged a lot, phone insurance full stop is pretty pointless.

If you've got house insurance, it may be covered on that. Check for any 'away from home' cover for outside the home though.

Otherwise like with everything else, just take care with the thing to reduce the chances and save the money you'd pay for the insurance to save for a replacement. If you're on a contract chances are by the end of the contract you can get a cheap or free replacement.

Yeah if the worst happens early on and you've paid a fortune for the thing, then it's tough luck, but it probably won't be something that will happen again in your life, so why pay tonnes on insurance. Just pay up for the replacement, in the long run it will still be cheaper.

That sounds pretty pointless. I pay £5 a month extra on vodafone and have been given 2 Galaxy S2s in the last 12 months, no questions asked, when mine have started misbehaving.

Probably a bit late, but I've found having a little leather wallet for it seems to protect it from moisture (and scratches from keys!) - anecdotally anyway, as the one I've got now I've had about 7 months with no problems, and its the only one I've kept in a cover.

I have free cover from my bank for both mine and the wifes phone. it also gives me free travel insurance for all of us, free breakdown cover for all 3 cars (the full sherbang, not just home start). Time to change your bank account!

Phone insurance is pointless, I get it free from the bank but never made a claim. The way I see it you look after your phone or if you can't you get a cheapo £20 jobbie and, if you need it, a replacement SIM and see you contract out in shame if you lose/damage your shiney posh phone.

    ^This. (Barclays per chance?)

It's not really free though is it? How much do you pay per month for these benefits?

I pay £7 a month, which as VWS pointed out, covers phone cover, travel insurance, FULL breakdown cover and discounts in some stores. For the full breakdown cover alone, I know I'd be paying more than £7 a month from the RAC

Totally depends on circumstance what the best deal is to be fair. As I don't have a car the main selling point is removed.

Plus my bank charges more than £7 for that stuff! That's a really good deal.

Warranty should cover that, shouldn't need to pay anything. Basic rights even. Should expect it to last a good few years.

I always took phone insurance, never lost a phone. Then one day I closed the swing door tailgate on my Discovery and heard "crunch" My phone was trashed as I'd left it on the back door sill!
Made a call, went to Vodafone shop, took about ten minutes and the next day I received a replacement
Worth the small premium I paid..

Even if the water damage indicator inside has been tripped?

Just keep it in a safe place - no need for insurance.

i think my phone insurance costs about 2.5 quid a month and i used it for the first time last week.

i dropped it in a pint, used a phone that worked to ring orange, got a new phone minus the battery and sim and memory cards before midday the next morning, no questions asked.

seems like a worthwhile thing to me

It is most certainly worthwhile if you are a careless drunken d1ck.

So all cruddie types should have it.

Will look into my bank actually, its not the first time I've heard good things about their cover
Backing up my galaxy nexus before going through a claim process.. will be my error no doubt for not using the supplied earbuds..

I get Gadget Insurance, Mobile Phone insurance, bike insurance, house insurance, RAC breakdown cover, travel insurance on all devices I bring with me, plus about 50 other things I don't need with Barclays and only pay 15 a month for one of the Premier Accounts. Much better than buying the insurances separately, and since I'm a business banker and a personal banker with Barclays they are always very speedy with payments.
