Chain length for a 50 x 27

I ordered a compact chainset, 12-27 cassette and new chain.

When I opened the box, I can see they have given me a 114 link chain. Does that sound long enough for the 50 x 27???

Thanks

the correct chain length depends on more than the info you give, the chain will be too long, you'll need to cut it to fit your bike

follow the instructions for the rear derailleur to determine correct length

for shimano road they're all the same, so just follow the instructions here...

if this cassette is a different size to the previous one, you should also adjust the rear derailleur, ditto for the chainset and front derailleur

It's not just your compact and your chainset : How big is your bike, how long are the chain stays ?

See Sheldon's article on how to cut your chain to length http://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html#chain

FWIW, I need to cut 4 links off a chain to fit my Spesh Roubaix with 50/36 and 12-27 cassette

Andy is right you need to factor on the chain stay length.

Came across this useful link recently:-

Measure your chain stay as recommended and input the 50 and 27 where appropriate and Hey Presto you have the ideal length.
