Pi**ed Off big time...delivery date 1 month later!

I placed an order with Rose bikes in Germany on the 1st of May. Delivery was due to be on the 25th of June. I've paid most of the total cost of £1100 but held back £500 until I knew it was ready to be delivered.

I e mailed them to confirm a date and have been told that due to a lack of frames the bike won't now be ready for another month (21st of July estimate).

I'm going to France on the 3rd of July and having already sold my old road bike it looks like all the rides I've been planning won't happen now. I'm livid!

I'm thinking of cancelling and getting something from a dealer that's in stock but, having spent 3 months deciding what to buy I don't want to rush into a purchase I'll regret, plus the spec on The Rose was very good for my budget.

I'm just so annoyed I could scream! When were they planning (if at all) to tell me about the delay. It's only due to my enquiry today that I've found out.

They are holding about £400 so far, and I'm not sure where I stand if I did cancel...am I entitled to a full refund as they have failed to provide me with the bike on the agreed delivery date?

Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated. The bike I was/am buying had SRAM Apex and is this model:

Dunno how you stand with refund but similar spec Canyon is €999 for Apex or €1249 Ultegra and ready for immediate dispatch

I'd have thought you should be OK for a refund it being EU and all that but damned if I can work out why you sold your old bike before getting the new one. Bird in the hand and all that......

You can definitely get adult recumbent trikes in the UK although you might have to go to a specialist shop to get one.

Any riding groups near you who might have one or be able to put you in touch with a supplier? e.g. http://mbwales.com/en/content/cms/blog/ ... e_mtb.aspx

The chances are the delay is due to one of the components that was spec'ed with the bike is not available.
From what I've heard, Rose are a decent company.... so if you call then and explain that you basically need a bike for you trip and ask them (initially) what they believe your options are.

In terms of legal position, it is obviously European rules rather than UK.... but as above, you would be much better off talking to someone at the company in a friendly kind of way rather than shouting down the phone (and getting their back up) of all of the legalities. The chances are, Rose customer service is most probably a lot higher than the legal position in Europe.

Only let it go a few weeks ago as the chap who offered to buy it was desperate for it and offered me a good price which I couldn't refuse.

I've found a contact number on their website for their UK rep, who is based in Westbury, Wiltshire which isn't far from me. I'm going to call him to see what him can do.

The response I had is this:

Sorry for this bad news, but I think we could deliver the bike only from week 29, because the frame is not in stock.

So far they have been really helpful, so I've not lost my rag with them, just expressed my disappointment at finding out a few days prior to when I was told delivery would take place. I don't want to cancel, but on the otherhand with a fortnight in the South of France in 13 days time I really need something to ride, although a mate's offered to lend me his Ribble as he's torn him hamstring this week doing JOGLE.

    OP said 'lack of frames'

OK chaps, thanks for the responses, but after a quick call to the UK rep, I've now been offered a frame upgrade from the PRO SL to the PRO RS.

To be honest I'm not sure what the differences are, but I've accepted the offer. The other change is the new frame is all white and I ordered Black & White. That said I think it's a good compromise.

This is what they are offering now, albeit all the components, group set, wheels are exactly the same as my original order:

I think it was worth complaining, and hope to have delivery next week now. :D

Sorry I missed the bit about the frame :-) It's always good to actually talk to people about the issue rather than just an email, as generally ordering and customer support will be different departments (so that you can explain why the delivery date was so important etc)

Great news about the bike. Looks like the RS has better forks as the frame spec seems the same/similar (that's not saying it's not better either).

Enjoy your trip (and new bike!)

The frame and forks appear to be the same but the geometry has a few differences, the measurements below are all based on the new upgraded frame:

Wheel Base is 2 cm shorter.

    Forepart is 2 cm shorter.

Head Tube length is 10 cm shorter.

    Stack is 11cm shorter.

    Reach is 1cm longer.

Surely all those figures are mm not cm? Is the head tube really 10cm shorter....?

I've printed out both geometry spec sheets and all dimensions are quoted in CM not MM. That said you're right that some of these dimensions are in MM's ... all very confusing :x

Hope you get your bike in time, moral of the story....use your local bike shop in future-you'll get better service and if anything goes wrong it's less aggro.
