Bikes for riders with poor balance

My boss has an autistic son who currently rides a trike, and really enjoys this. He is unable to ride a regular two wheeled bike due to issues with balance and this leads him to become very uncomfortable/upset with too much sideways movement.
As he is now getting older my boss is keen to try and find a solution so that he is able to ride a more 'normal' bike to avoid bullying from other children andjust so he feels like he fits in.
does anyone know of any adult sized trike style bikes or balancing methods for full size bikes?
Any help would be great.
