Hi all, first post so please be gentle. I am thinking of changing my 3x10 crank set up to 1x10 on my GIant Trance X3 2012 and incorporate a Shimano XTR shadow plus deraileur instead of a chain device up front. Does anyone use this kind of set up if so is it recommended?
Cheers guys.

I use a 2x10 with xtr+ very happy with it. I can only imagine a 1x10 is even less hassle.A Flock of Birds

Actually, since a 1x10 doesn't have any front mech to guide the chain, it can frequently be far far more hassle than 2x10.
Just a heads up.0 -
i have an XTR Shadow Plus - it stops the chain flapping about as much, and can help the chain coming off from the bottom. So doesn't replace a conventional upper chain guide.0

Why not just fit a chainguide :?
Shame if it doesn't negate the need for a guide, would've been very tempted then!0 -

1x10 with a top guide is far lighter than 2x10 with no guide...0

Top guide front with rear XTR+ sounds like a plan. Any reccomendations on the top guide for a trance without the ICSG feature?
Cheers for the feedback.Giant Trance X3 2012

They will all have the plus feature with in months. 170 notes is a lot for a mech that's all.0

Yeah, SLX style will probably be £50-£60I don't do smileys.

Yeah, first I saw of it was in an article on the new direct mount deraileur standard that shimano have started touting.0 -

Wow, ridiculous prices.0

All mechs are silly prices. That's why, even though I want rid of my SRAM x7 rear mech, I will not replace it until it has actually turned into dust. The rattling I can deal with.0

I'd happily use this on my 9 speed kit:
