Cost cutting b*stards have destroyed my office....
Free Tea and Coffee - gone - 20p vending machines containing rat pi$$.
Office Rubbish bins - Gone, one centralised rubbish bin
Employees have to clean our own desks with anti bac wipes
Employees have to clean kitchen and sort out dishwasher
Dedicated Cleaners cut back to twice a week - they will concentrate on one area of the office each week...so, it could be every 10 weeks that the carpet I perch on gets cleaned.
And here is an extract from the patronising cow that has organised this farse;
'and I’d also like to extend my thanks to you all for accommodating the changes and settling into the new regime (albeit begrudgingly for some), thanks all the same'
Thanks all the same - hope you contract ends with a sharp object being shoved in your left eye.....
So, People being payed £40k per annum upwards are now cleaning up the office......surely the time that these people will now dedicate to cleaning will cost more to the business that just employing some cleaners?
We now have 250 people in an office where there is 50 parking spaces......FFS, this is like a sardine can....
Anyone got any jobs?

If that's only just happened to you, your office was 10 years behind the times. Welcome to the new order. What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?0

Hard life innit? I just had my own office cleaned & polished top to bottom (except for the bike, that's off limits to everyone), bin emptied & bin bag renewed like most days and the recycle bag taken away for emptying with a clean one in its place. I did have to wander off with a coffee for 10 minutes to chat to some laydees whilst it happened though.
Welcome to my world, where it's still circa 1998. Yes I am making the most of it whilst it lasts.0 -
Dude, you've not had one good thing to say about your work since ... I can remember.
FWIW, I completely agree that getting people who pay higher rate tax to clean their office is idiotic. And cleaning the carpet once in 10 weeks? You'll have mice or worse (hint, hint).1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Sorry - being a moaning git, at least I have a job to go to, more than allot of other people at this uncertain time.
When this place was a startup, there was a real buzz and a culture that embraced the product and development. What is depressing is to see loads of really talented people being treated so badly and their product that they have created being taken for granted and given away for free as an incentive to buy services....watching the whole company sink is quite alarming!0 -

Used to work for a certain systems integrator/consultancy in their Advanced Technologies team.. a close knit highly effective team that made north of 14% profit when the industry average was 5%. Cue reverse takeover by a bunch of loss making body shoppers (in the pursuit of money-grabbing by the senior management team) and watch the good stuff being torn apart in the pursuit of 'cost savings'. "We'll distribute the good people amongst our code fodder and they'll magically make everyone better". Suffice to say I got out just before they went down the pan, were subsequently taken over by yet another systems integrator/consultancy and 30 years of market leading excellence was consigned to the bin.Invacare Spectra Plus electric wheelchair, max speed 4mph0 -

Yes, it has left the building along with many others.....I was offered Australia or Canada moves, but both have now dried up in another re-org......ugh!
Anyway, got some interviews lined up further down the Thames valley, we'll see where it goes...0 -
Nawh. Diddums.
if you feel really strongly about it, start including 'Cleaning' and 'Emptying Dishwasher' as 0.5hr increments on your timesheet. That'll show'em!0 -
Time to get out. The change from free food/drinks to making people pay is a pain, but not a sign of doom. However saving tiny sums on cleaning is either stupidity (perhaps a manager trying to look effective) or a sign of financial drama to come. Even the smallest of businesses have cleaners.
Get the hell out.0 -
I can maybe understand the Tea/Coffee thing. Quite rare to get that free unless there is not such facilitys to make drinks. We have about 200-300 people on this floor of our building. There are 4 kitchen areas each with those cool Taps which depense Cold or Boiling Water and Fridges.
We do have cleaners. Some come during the day to empty bins (We are a big Aerospace site) as we are big on recycling here. All the hoovering is done at night as is the cleaning. However the cleaning simply consists of ruining my desk and pushing the dirt around
Frankly they are all useless apart from the lady who emptys our bins who is a good laugh. I take great delight in shuffling her bin bags down the other end of the office. She enjoys the banter.
Making you clean yourself and hoover is frankly a stupid waste of resource not to mention their must be H&S issues there. I think H&S is a load of crap however might be a get out clause there. Just tweak your back or trip over a hoover cord and say you have not had proper training
Our little team/Section is going down the pan with stupid restrictive changes that do nothing other than destroy moral and decrease productivity. I am thank full to have a job however there comes a point where enough is enough and it is time to move on...0 -

Wouldn't give that as the reason you're looking to leave in either the interview or the chat with the recruiter...;).
"Erm, so why are you looking to leave?"
"They make me pay for my coffee".

It's a classic support function approach: devolve the work and "hide" the cost within the organisation. The support function head will have "delivered" a cost saving...ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

Move to NZ. At my place we have cleaners, free/coffee tea, free lunch on Wednesday, and free beer on Friday. We roll the kegs in at 4.30 and drink, play pool/foos until whenever we decide to roll home. You might like it over here.
Would love to! In fact, I am searching around the locale for a job now!0 -

I am fortunate to be working full time at the moment, and basically enjoy the work and like my colleagues but there are some similar creeping changes here that are just an unnecessary irritant.
Very dull of me, but I'm keeping things in perspective."Consider the grebe..."0 -
Similar thing happened to me few years ago - working for a nice little software company, specialised product, small teams, half a dozen developers, 4 trainers and a couple of sales guys - free tea/coffee, came in when we liked, went home 8/9 in the evening or whenever we finished - American company took us over, doubled the size of the teams but without the same quality staff - I got out within 18 months - last time I saw a version of the product it was so full of bugs no-one would buy it0

Sir - you are a gentleman. I shall be browsing frantically....anything Telecoms based?0 -
I don't know much about that sector - most of the work will be up in Auckland. You could try contacting Telecom and Vodafone:

Good luck. If you have any general questions about NZ, just pm me.0
