it looks as though the crank arm on the left handside of my bike is bent but when i went out on monday it doesnt feel loose but it dont feel great when pedaling. my riding is mostly xc but with some jumps , small drop offs and i like to point the bike down a hill.
The bike is a 2011 gt avalanche 3.0 with really only the brakes , seatpost and wheels remaining that i have not changed so looking for something tough and hardwearing but light, any ideas guys?

A Shimano Deore HT2 will do. Anyway, are you sure it's the crank arm and not the pedal axle?A much loved, Giant Trance X3 20100

+1 for Deore
Great value, solid, reasonable weight.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

No problem just 5mm shorter, so adjust your seat to suit, job done.0

Is there any specific reason why are you changing the crank arm length?A much loved, Giant Trance X3 20100

a quick question though why do they have different size arm lengths?
and @ Greer_ thanks for the link luckily i have not done the order from CRC yet, i have seen on ebay the same crankset but with 10 speed chain and cassette for £82.99 as a package0 -

Cos not every one has the same length legs  :?0 -

I'm pretty sure it's something to do with frame clearance :? it had me thinking about the length when I ordered the crankset I linked to so I just did a like for like, not that a smaller length one would've made a difference.
Any weight saving will be very minimal!0 -

i was thinking the same regarding the clearance and i was joking about the weight saving aspect being the main reason but every little helps0 -
And guaranteed you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in length without looking.I don't do smileys.

Would a longer crank not require less peddle revolutions for a given speed - therefore being more efficient?
a smaller one for ground clearance?

I thought it was to do with leg length-the longer your legs, the longer cranks you should have?
This is shown by most womens bikes coming with 170mm cranks, and some tall pro's bikes having 180s.
Im not sure how much of a difference 5mm makes though!0 -

Add £7 for postage and its still cheaper 8)
but doesn't have the bottom bracket included (i think, although it doesn't specify unlike the other Shimano HT2 cranks on their site).0
