My cadence censor stopped working while out today. The cause was the magnet part on the pedal had fallen off and could not be found. Can i get the pedal bit for a garmin on its own or bodge a spoke magnet b
it on instead. I miss it already and it stops me grinding big gears.

Measure the diameter of thread of your pedal and search Ebay for the approriate size magnet.
    Much cheaper and elegant.

    For example:-

None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

The magnet goes on the pedal screw - opposite side of the crank from the pedal.
Works and is so much neater. Plus the magnets are so strong that they never fall off.
Can be a pain to get off for servicing though. I use a mini screw driver to pry them off/out.
Make sure that you get the right diameter - You don't want them going inside the hex socket.

Thats great and so much neater than the cable tie that failed today. Many thanks Daviesee. This forum is great for finding things out and the ribbing and strops are entertaining to say the least.

    Potential daft question alert !

How powerful are these magnets ? The reason I ask is that I have the Garmin combined wheel / cadence sensor, and I don't really want the magnet on the cranks interfering with the wheel sensor.

Quite strong. Takes a bit of effort to prise them off.

I have used them in conjunction with the wheel mounted magnet for the Garmin cadence sensor with no issues.

Means no cable-tie on the crank of your good bike - discreet :P

Exactly what I was thinking, I've got some new Rotor Agilis cranks arriving tomorrow and don't want a nasty cable tie on them

The two magnets pass the sensor in different places and will flash red for one and green for the other, I've been using rare earth magnets on my crank with no conflicts for over a year now. My spares are on the side of the cooker as all they were too strong to stay in the toolbox.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
