Hi
I need to buy a set of bike lights and have been looking at the exposure flash/flare light set and was wondering if anyone had them and if they would be bright enough on country lanes?
Are there anyother lights which people would recommend for using on country lanes?
Budget of £100 max for a set.
Thanks
Sarah

The guys in Commuting Chat who ride country lanes absolutely swear by the Exposures. Probably a good time of year to buy them too.0 -
Flash / Flare are "be seen" lights, not see by lights, they're great for being seen, but they don't put out enough light to see forward by for dark lanes.Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0

Thats what i'm worried about, really need ones to see on the dark lanes as I live in the country side and most of the lanes are unlit with rather nasty pot holes etc.0

I think your only real option at that price are the magicshine ones with all the problems they entailJibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0

I had a look at the magicshine ones and dont really like the look of all the messing about and wires, if I was to increase the budget which other lights are worth looking at?0

I'd recommend the Philips LED front lamp - about £80 at Rosebikes. I have both versions - 80 Lux rechargeable (USB socket, 4 x AA batteries) & 60 Lux Dynamo. Shaped beam & doesn't dazzle oncoming vehicles/bikes like the gazillion lumen £100+ MTB units.Location: ciderspace0

The rear exposure (Flare?) is very bright. Excellent for cars to see you on country lanes.
I use the Redeye - basically the Flare but with a lead to connect and use power from the front light. It can be seen from quite a distance, so cars know they are approaching you well before they see your reflective gear etc.
I use a joystick on the road. It is just about powerful enough to see at around 20-25mph, but not as good as the Magicshine (that I use off road).
A cheaper self contained alternative might be the Hope LED 1 or one of the new Leyzne lights. The cheapest way of getting a self contained light however is probably a torch type from somewhere like Dealextreme who also sell bar mounts.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

the rear exposure is good, but the front is too weedy to actually illuminate the road.
Better to run a cheap Ultrafire from dealextreme on the front.
I run one of these, on an Exposure h/bar mount

The Hope Vision 1 is okay, if a little bulky/heavy. The Ultrafire is as bright but much lighter/sleeker. Joysticks are okay but £££ for what they are.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
I got a Lezyne Mini Drive as a "free" gift with a mag subscription. Great little light with 3 steady and 2 flashing modes. On the brightest setting it lasts about 40 mins before dropping down to the slow flash (better than cutting out). My commute is 7.5 miles and mostly unlit, and i can see plenty with it. It also has a removable rechargeable battery, and you can buy spare ones if you need them. Recharges from a USB socket too. Currently £45 on CRC, which would leave plenty of cash for a couple of rear lights.
There are also 2 more powerful versions priced at £72 & £90.Specialized Allez sport 2010

I have decided to go with a Flare light for the back and a Lezyne Super Drive for the front, with looking round online I got both for £100. Flare was £32 and Super Drive was £68 in the sale0
