Contents insurance with bike cover

Apologies as I know questions about insurance get asked a lot, but I'm about to start renting a new flat and I need to get contents insurance that will also cover my bike. M&S always used to be highly recommended, but they've changed their policy recently, so who are some good alternatives?

I built the bike up bit by bit and it's worth about £4.5k in total now, although I paid about half that myself with discounts etc. I guess I'd need to insure it for the total RRP of the parts, not how much I actually paid for them?

I did a quote with More Than based on a 4.5k bike, which came to £40/month. A lot, but about the same as a specific bike insurance policy.

Anyone have any recommendations as a few insurers I've looked at so far have limits of £1000 or £2500 per bike?

I'm covered with RBS. £8k per bike up to the value of my contents limit.

I bank with RBS and it's their Royalties Gold cover but I'm sure a similar policy would be available if you just wished to purchase standalone home insurance.

I use Halifax. I think it's about £60 extra a year for £3.5k cover, but you can choose the level of cover you want.

Lloyds TSB do offer bike cover as a bolt on to there home and contents insurance but not sure about away from the home.

If you go via British Cycling they have a company which promises the most competitive price.

Sainsbury's. I've just bumped the cover for my MTB from £1500 to £2500 and it's added £4 to my premium!

Try Direct Line. You will need to ring them if your bike is over £1,000.
