Maxxis Tyre Advice

Hi,
I have recently split my rear Schwalbe Black Jack tyre while on a XC route and I am in search of a new tyre.
Reading many forums etc it would seem that the Maxxis are the better choice for all round mountain biking but which Maxxis to choose?
Im basically looking for a tyre that will perform relatively well while off road and provide not too much road resistance, I know its difficult to get a tyre that will perform well in all occasions.
The Ignitor or Crossmark looks good but with all the choice its difficult for a beginner.
My tyres are 26 x 2.10.
The non Maxxis choice is possibly schwalbe smart sam.
Thanks in advance
Gavin

There has been a few threads knocking around about this recently. Have a quick search in the buying advice and beginners sections for more info.2011 Carrera Fury

CrossMarks are fast rolling and most excellent in dry-ish conditions but are hopeless in wet rubbly stuff & firm-to-sloppy mud. Would not use one on the front unless conditions were superb i.e. dry buff trail centre. They are fine on the road and for mellow trails though. Ignitors are a safe bet have not used one meself but they seem OK.
Larsens also very fast but worse than CrossMarks in mud etc
There's always a trade-off between grip and rolling resistance - a dual-compound Aspen might be worth a look
The wire bead derivatives are noticeably heavier (and slower) than the folders0 -
Ignitors are decent general trail tyres - I use them all year round. The soft (Exception) are best.I don't do smileys.

Ive had ignitors too and while they are a decent trail tyre, they are pants on tarmac.0

I tend to run a Crossmark on the rear over the summer with an Ikon on the front.
Over winter I swap to an ADvantage on the front at first then put ADvantage front/rear if it gets really wet and slippy.
I have been likeing the look of the Ardent though as an all round tyre as well and I know a few people who use the Aspen.
Always been good tryes for me though0
