Compact chainset to standard

I use a compact chainset and most of the time I am in the 50.I find when I change down to the 34 now its just too much of a drop.Because I am getting a little fitter and I now take regular spins with a strong cyclist I don't think I need a compact anymore.

Do I have to get a new chainset or can I just change my 34 inner ring to a 39,is this even possible? Will I need to get a new chain cassette and make ajustments to the front mech.Money is tight at present and whats the cheapest solution.

yes i would say its as simple as that. change the 34 to 39. Sure your lbs will be able to order one. Stronglight used to do a range of sizes. You may be able to order what you need and change it yourself. Think its usually a 110 bcd for a road compact

Getting your LBS to order a new chain ring is not the cheapest option - get one from CRC/Merlin/etc - 5 minute job with two allen keys to fit and job jobbed.

Make sure its black as they are faster, then smash the old one with a hammer and throw it in next door's garden.
