Changing granny ring from 24T to 22T on 10-speed XT M770?

Hey there, I have a 10 speed XT M770 crankset which comes with 24-32-42 chainrings. I'd like to change the granny ring for a 22T from the 9 speed M770 but I'm not 100% sure that it's compatible. There does not appear to be any difference (aside from the 2 less teeth of course) and I know that the chain and rear mech will take the extra length.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Don't see why not. But I don't know why you would want such a low gear....

  • I'd want such a low gear as I live in Colombia and some of the mountain climbs are brutal. Thanks for your thoughts.

Make sure your rear mech has enough capacity (i.e. capability to take up the chain length 'change') if running a 36T rear cassette. I think the reason for 10 speed being 24-32-42 is because of rear mech capacity when running a 36T cassette.
