As part of our preparations for doing LeJog in July we are having a 2 day trip to the Lakes to ensure we can cycling on consecutive days. We are planning on doing our LeJog trip in 9 days so averaging over 100 miles each day.
Our plan is to do the Fred Whitton route on the Saturday and something more gentle on the Sunday. Does anyone have recommendations for the Sunday ride. Probably at least 5 hours, 75 mile ish.
We are staying in Langdale quite near the start of the Fred Whitton.
Thanks

you can get something "flatter" than the fred but flat would be a push
langdale>>>hawkshead >>> grizedale[hill]>>>>satterthwaite>>>rusland valley>>>>Bouth>>>>tottlebank>>>>spark bridge[east of river]>>>> broughton beck >>>>ulverston>>>priory road coast road >>long lane>>>leece>>>gleaston>>>little urswick>>>great urswick>>>ulverstone>>>B5281 broughton beck>>>b5281 until turning for lowick bridge>>lowick bridge[east of river]>>>east of lake via Nibithwaite and brantwood>>>>hawkshead hill[hill]>>>langdales
you could meander around the Furness peninsular for extra milage
stay off the A590 A593 [between langdales and coniston] and A5092 as much as poss
alternatively get over the dunmail rise from ambelside and ride the flatter land north of keswick towards wigton, much flatter"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -

Here above is a 100k route in the South Lakes.
Takes in Bowness, ferry trip accross Windermere, to Consiton, Brantwood is a good stop for cake on Coniston. On to Ambleside, climb out up 'the struggle' -- the only serious climb. Then on through Troutbeck, Kentmere, Stavley (home of Wheelbase emporium and aonther good cake stop). Then Kendal and back via Crook.
Its a good route, lots of options to extend/shorten, can miss the climb too if you want, but does detract form the tour a bit.0
